Meet me in the sunshine

We're doing a spotlight on Amy Tangerine's new line, Rise & Shine on the Paper Issues blog today. I've been wanting to use that gold script thicker phrase for awhile now and finally found the perfect photo to pair it with.

One of my friends from high school died suddenly when we were 25. This photo is from a couple of years ago when we got together on the anniversary of his death with our kids and remembered our dear friend. We had a wonderful day time together and that phrase perfectly captures how that photo makes me feel.

I grouped a bunch of circle elements (2) (3) from the same line in different mediums.

I added some thicker 'stitches' near my typed journaling strips to add a cohesiveness to my layout.

With the title and the sun flair in my photo, I knew I needed to add in some sun bursts. I cut a few strips from a pretty yellow paper with hearts and tucked them under my photo on the left side. I love how the yellow looks against that wood grain paper

While I didn't use any on this layout, I love that Rise & Shine has both gold and silver elements. These are a few of my favourite items from the line that are available in the Paper Issues shop (1), (2), (3), (4) .

You & Me - Sketchy Saturday

It's time for a new monthly sketch at Paper Issues. This month's sketch is based on a layout Sasha Farina made for October Afternoon.

I love the way Sasha combines square and circle elements in the layout and the way they make a 'ladder'down the page.

I used Crate Paper Craft Market for my take on the sketch. I took inspiration from the ink splatters and sequins and used a polka dot patterned paper for my background.

I pretty much based the entire layout around the two circular die cuts. Once I saw the "you are my happy"and "favourite memories" I knew they would be perfect for this sketch and my two favourite mother's day photos would work really well with them.

I really like the wood veneers that come with this line and that they are either half dippped in paint or gold glitter. I love the Marquee Thickers! They are so fun.

I just adore all the gold foil and glitter in this line. Every once in awhile I think it's too much on one layout and then I come to my senses and remember that you can never have too much gold and glitter.

I definitely need another pack of the die cut ephemera because I used all the die cut flowers on this layout. They were just too pretty not to use.

I used the frames that came with the 12x12 chipboard sticker sheet. I love how there are a bunch that are nested inside one another.

You have until July 3rd to link up your project for the chance to win a $10 gift certificate to the Paper Issues shop.

For the love of groceries

While I am making my through my massive pile of Confetti, I realized I have a few layouts I made with Open Book that I haven't shared yet. I figured I would share a layout a week or so over the next few weeks.

The first layout is all about Andy's deep love of groceries. One day when he was about 20 months old, he was incredibly fussy and we had just come home from shopping. I left him take the groceries in and out of the bag and he happily played for almost an hour. Ever since, Andy has played 'groceries' basically every day of the life. I definitely had to document this obsession,

These Thickers are actually from Pebbles, but I used them on a bunch of layouts using both Open Book and Notes & Things. They went really well with both lines. Since my title was too big to make all with Thickers, I brough out my trusty Dymo label maker and added the remainder of my title to a jewelry tag and added a wood veneer heart.

I used a few of my favourite papers from the 6x6 pad to mat my photos with. I really liked using the smaller scale patterns with my smaller photos. I used a big piece of my favourite paper from this line at the top of my layout. I also used a few pieces from the die cut ephemera pack tucked behind my photos and layered on top.

This is a super simple layout but I really like how the photos take center stage, so I can focus on the memory of my sweet boy and his love of groceries.

Blue Steel - Scraplift Sunday

Scraplift Sunday on the Paper Issues Friends & Fans Facebook page is quickly becoming my favourite day of the week. When I started scrapbooking, I scraplifted exclusively, so it will always hold a special place in my heart.

This week, our layout to lift was created by Sherri Wesley Funk. I just love the big piece of patterned paper at the top and the die cut title, so I took my inspiration mostly from these two elements.

I finally broke into Crate Paper Craft Market for this layout and has so much fun using some of my favourite pieces (1), (2), (3), (4). I based my layout around that star paper which just screamed baby boy to me.

I hand cut my title in the wonky letters style that I just love right now! It's a little time consuming, but I love how they look.

Hand cut titles also work really well when you want a super big font or if your title has too many of the same letter than you have in your alpha collection (hello 3 E's here!)

You have until June 6th to add your layout to the thread over on Facebook. I just love seeing everyone's take on the lift.

GOTR -- Scraplift Sunday at Paper Issues

There is a new feature over at the Paper Issues Friends & Fans Facebook page - Scraplift Sunday. We take a layout a member of the design team has made that week and we post it as inspiration to be lifted. This week, the layout was this amazing one by Mary-Ann.

I was so excited to scraplift this one. I made a layout about when my friends and went to see Gentlemen of the Road, which is Mumford & Sons' music festival. It was an epic weekend and Crate Paper's Journey line was perfect!

I used those amazing alphas from Crate Paper's The Pier line. I have been using them very sparingly. They are so fun!

I just adore banners. I took anything that was banner shaped (one of those is actually an arrow) from the ephemera pack and tucked them under my photo. I also used my tab punch to add a few tabs above my photo.

When I saw this 3x4 card, i immediately knew it would be perfect for this photo. I was really happy I found a use for that wood veneer tent! It's just so cute.

A new Scraplift Subday will be posted in our Facebook group on Sunday. Come join us, the inspiration is endless!

My Love

It's no secret that I love a good sketch. I was really excited to see the sketch that Scrapbook Circle posted on Friday. I couldn't want to get started.

I used Crate Paper's Journey line for the layout my boy. As soon as I saw the "you are my greatest adventure" card, I knew it would be perfect for an Andy layout. I cut it down a bit to fit inside the wood veneer frame.

I layered a bunch of papers from the line under my photo and the frame. I then added some bits from the ephemera pack around them.

I added some thread under the tag at the top and love the added dimension.

I had so much fun doing this sketch. Thanks for the inspiration Scrapbook Circle!
